english-speaking laborer (to be edited)

the US economy is in recession, peso to dollar rate is pegged at P48-$1 and they’re not winning the war in Iraq even in Bush’s dreams. the streets are lined with protesting workers. in their perspective, it’s nearing the end of the world, if not for countries such as the Philippines to unwillingly save their bum, oppressive imperialist ass. they’ve been passing their economic burden to us for a hundred years now, and the best example today is the call center.
the call center, perfectly packaged by the current administration for college graduates and the english-speaking out-of-school youth (such as moi), is the cheapest way of getting quality service. trained for a hundred years to speak better english than most Americans know how to spell (a fact we all know too well), the Filipino is the best labor there is in the market. why pay an American, when you can hire 3 Filipinos who can do more and take note, better?
enticingly, we are compensated quite well (in Filipino standards), talk about 14k a month plus-plus. although we tend to be alienated from the work force since the nature of the job is bourgeois. what demoralizes me is, i rarely find a person who understands my view… *sigh* i miss studying, too…
i blink at my own reflection every night before i go to work. alas, it
has come to this. but i can’t spend time pondering why the fuck i got
myself stuck with this tech support job when i’m about to be late if i don’t get my
ass in a taxi soon.
Mark and Carl, we need to do something before i crack up…
